Abstract:
Discusses the manner and consequences of transmitting the memory of the Holocaust, either through direct testimonies of eyewitnesses or through indirect, second generation knowledge and understanding of the tragedy within the framework of the family. A socio-anthropological and psychological approach, based on 100 interviews with survivors and their children, in Israel, France, and Belgium, qualifies the Holocaust less as a trauma than as an "apocalypse", that is - a revelation of human evil and a rupture in the chain of transmission of memory (notes, also, the Nazis' attempt to erase the memory of the Jewish race).
