Kurzfassung:
Discusses Austrian socialist ideas about Jews in terms of both pre-World War II history and the post-Anschluss novel "Eine Österreicherin erlebt den Anschluss" by Lili Körber. Focuses on the ambiguous attitude of the novel toward the Jews, who are constantly compared unfavorably (usually as representatives of the bourgeoisie) to the workers. Stresses the often negative views of Jews in the Austrian Social Democratic Workers' Party, including use of antisemitic rhetoric, partly derived from Karl Marx and possibly reflecting a degree of self-hatred of leading Austrian Jewish-born socialists.
