Abstract:
This chapter positions the essays contained within The Palgrave Handbook on Britain and the Holocaust in their historical and contemporary contexts. It outlines the origins of the Handbook, places it within existing historiography and summarises the key trends, tenets and trajectories of the collection. Fundamentally, it argues for a re-learning of Britain’s relationship with the Holocaust—one which is rooted in historical actuality and is appreciative of the complex interplay between history and memory
