Abstract: Discusses antisemitism, anti-Americanism, and anti-Zionism in today's Germany, where overt antisemitism is not acceptable. One of the consequences of the "cosmopolitization" of Holocaust memory, and German identification with the European Union, has been German Jews' loss of status as protected victims. Germans who identify with cosmopolitan citizenship, a stance that has increased since the fall of the Berlin Wall, view national and ethnic conflicts as irrational and side with the weak, including the Palestinians and Iraq. Points out similarities between anti-globalist criticism of the U.S. and traditional antisemitic arguments. Attacks on Anglo-American culture often cover up antisemitic prejudice. Concludes that the new antisemitism in Germany is no longer specifically German; it feeds on general resentment toward the U.S., Israel, and globalization.
