Abstract:
Discusses the prisoners in convoy number 6, which left Pithiviers for Auschwitz on 17 July 1942. Of the 809 male and 119 female deportees, ca. 30 survived. Among those killed in Auschwitz were the author's father, Szepsel Minczeles, and the French Jewish writer Irène Némirovsky; both were gassed on the same day. The prisoners came from Pithiviers and Beaune-la-Rolande, two camps created for Jewish immigrants, whose arrests began in Paris in May 1941. Most of the inmates in those two camps were originally Polish Jews who were politically active. In June 1942 deportations were announced in the two camps in view of the arrival of a new contingent from Drancy.
