Abstract:
The definition of antisemitism contradicts the libertarian ideology of anarchy, because the antisemite himself decides who is a "Jew" and who is not. Despite this inner contradiction, it is possible to find antisemitic observations in anarchist writings. The danger of antisemitism was undervalued by the anarchist movement in the 20th century, which did not deal with the subject with the same commitment it accorded other subjects. Anarchists viewed antisemitism as the outcome of Christian theology and capitalism, and ignored social antisemitism. They opposed Zionism as a form of nationalism; since the Six-Day War they, together with the Left, have sided against Israeli policies.
