Abstract:
The Jews of Sicily (numbering 202 in 1938) shared the fate of Jews elsewhere in Italy during fascist rule. Those who lived through the war suffered extreme limitation of civil rights, state persecution, and the and the indifference and suspicion of the non-Jewish population. Describes the experiences of several local Jewish families and persons. Some Sicilian Jews were able to emigrate and some were caught in northern Italy during the Nazi occupation and deported to concentration camps.
