Abstract:
Analyzes the influences of collective unconscious forces on anti-Judaism, relating to the cases of the Inquisition and the Holocaust. States that the Inquisition and the Nazi Holocaust might be better explained by considering the influence of old archetypes of the collective unconscious (as defined by Carl G. Jung) on constitutive elements of anti-Judaism and antisemitism. The Inquisitors and the Nazis drew upon old negative images about the Jews, images which emerged from the collective memory of the people, and were therefore accepted by them as unquestionable truths.
