Abstract:
Argues that the Holocaust remembrance day is not observed in a meaningful and unified manner by all Jews throughout the world, and the day designated as Yom Hashoah in Israel lacks any religious content. Suggests that Yom Hashoah be declared as a day of fasting, in accordance with Jewish tradition and history throughout the ages. Quotes the opinions of various rabbis on this subject, and explains the significance of fasting as commemoration, accompanied by special prayers, study and thought on the Holocaust. Another suggestion is to designate the seven weeks of the Omer (between Pesach and Shavuot) as a period of Holocaust commemoration.
