Abstract:
While the Centralverein (CV) had concentrated on legal action to fight antisemitism since its establishment in 1893, in the 1920s it began to focus on support for liberal parties and candidates, after realizing that legal action was fruitless. In summer 1930 the CV and the Zionistische Vereinigung für Deutschland (ZVfD) briefly joined forces in an attempt to fight antisemitism and have some impact on the September election, but the Nazi party received six million votes, making it the second largest party in the Reichstag. After the election, the CV and the ZVfD blamed each other for their failure, and both organizations set up committees to fight antisemitism.
