Abstract:
Asserts that many young people in Germany are infected with "secondary antisemitism" - antisemitism, not despite but because of Auschwitz. They resent the Jews who, by their very presence, do not allow the Germans to forget their guilt. Holocaust education teaches young people to see the Jews only as victims, i.e. objects, not as subjects with their own lives and culture. Photographs of the Holocaust printed in school textbooks reinforce this view, showing Jews as the subhuman subjects to which the Nazis reduced them.
