Abstract:
Whereas the first portions of Acts portray Paul as an observant Jew devoted to the welfare of other Jews, the second half describes the Jews as unbelieving and malicious, and focuses on their mistreatment of Paul. Argues that the author of these passages was influenced by anti-Jewish Hellenistic literature; his account implies that Paul went first to the Jews with the Gospel and only when they rejected it did he turn to the Gentiles, a picture not borne out by Paul's own writings.
