    Abstract: Points to antisemitic elements in a speech held in October 2003 by Martin Hohmann, then a member of the Bundestag for the Christian Democratic Union. Hohmann, an ultra-conservative Catholic, was speaking to a conservative Catholic group in his district, Neuhof in Hesse. He upheld the idea of an organic German Volk, and implied that Jews were foreign to this Volk, a nation within a nation; moreover, they exploited hardworking Germans by their demands for restitution. Hohmann was sharply criticized (though not in Hesse) and expelled from the CDU faction in the Bundestag. Argues that his open antisemitism goes a step farther than previous expressions of antisemitic politicians, who camouflaged their antisemitism as anti-Zionism. It is useless to argue with him or try to extract an apology; that would be asking him to deny an integral side of his own personality.
