Abstract:
Contends that the German Protestant Churches, even the anti-Nazi factions, failed in the 1930s to perceive the dangers of Nazi antisemitic ideology and to respond appropriately. Statements issued by them either failed to mention the persecution of Jews or underestimated it. During the first two decades of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Protestant Churches did not condemn the Churches' behavior during the Nazi period. Subsequently, the situation changed and Christian-Jewish dialogue has been established.
