Abstract:
Schnee had a doctoral degree in history, but he did not find a position in an academic institution. He was a high school history teacher throughout his life (including during the Nazi period). In the 1940s-60s, he engaged in private research on the court financiers in early modern Germany, including Jewish court Jews, and published a series on the subject in five volumes between 1953-1967. He characterized or implicitly denounced the Jewish court Jews as pioneers of Jewish emancipation (to which he was opposed). In his written work and teachings, he made a significant contribution to the distorted image of the devious Jewish moneylenders who he said were the precursors of modern-day corrupt Jewish capitalists.
