Abstract:
Surveys interpretations of Nazi antisemitism by anti-fascist (communist and left-wing) emigre writers in the 1930s. Most of them viewed antisemitism as a part of the larger fascist system, used as an instrument against democracy and socialism or for indoctrination and brutalization of the German populace in order to prepare them for imperialist war. In line with this approach, they called on Jewish refugees to see themselves as part of the anti-fascist emigre movement, and on the world to denounce the anti-Jewish pogroms as the first step towards a war for German domination of Europe.
