Abstract:
Analyzes French literature on the Holocaust - its specificity, problems, and values. Deals with writings by André Schwarz-Bart, Anna Langfus, Elie Wiesel, Romain Gary, Georges Perec, Patrick Modiano, and others. In the 1950s it was mainly memoirs and testimonies which appeared; only in the 1960s were the first novels and stories published. Discusses the difficulties of writing fiction on the Shoah, and differences between various authors in approaching the memory of the atrocities.
