Abstract:
Focuses on the effect of the First Crusade (1096) on the Jewish population in France and in Germany, where many Jews were murdered. Mentions the Crusade in Hungary, where Jews were given the choice of death or conversion. The Crusaders who assaulted Jerusalem in June 1099 massacred thousands of inhabitants, among them many Jews. The few Jewish survivors were forced to leave the city.
