Abstract:
An address delivered at a symposium on the Holocaust in Vienna. Deplores the insensitivity to memory of the Holocaust in Germany (as well as in Austria, and among the author's colleagues in German studies even in the USA). Many Germans now seem to feel that they can leave the past behind them. A reading of Améry should recall them to the duty of keeping this memory alive.
