Abstract:
Based on three months of research in Russia and on the Internet, contends that Holocaust denial, which has appeared only recently in Russia and has attracted little attention both academically and from monitoring organizations, is marginal and mostly an import from the West. Despite the high level of antisemitism in Russia, post-Soviet skepticism concerning historiography, and a lack of Holocaust education, anti-Nazi feeling resulting from World War II militates against Holocaust denial. Concludes that other antisemitic revisions of Russian history, such as blaming Jews for the "genocide" of Russians after the Revolution, are more likely to encourage antisemitism in post-Soviet Russia.
