Abstract:
A revised version of a lecture delivered in English at Cambridge, May 1990. In order to explain John Chrysostom's anti-Jewish sermons, describes the rhetorical customs of his period (4th century) and the efforts made by him to save the new Christians from the attraction of their former religion - Judaism. Asserts that despite all the repulsive expressions, there is no Jew-hatred in Chrysostom's writings, and no anti-Jewish attacks took place in his time. Reviews recent scholarly literature on this subject.
