Abstract:
The aim of the antisemitic laws of 1938-39 in Hungary was to exclude the Jewish population from the economic and cultural life of the country. Examines the reactions of authorities in Hajdú County, based on the press and archival documents. The monthly "Hajdúvármegye és Debrecen th. j. és sz. kir. Város vitézi székéhez" reflects the antisemitic mood of the local police and the university staff. A letter written by the police-chief to the county's high-sheriff on 9 January 1940 mentions the distribution of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" among police officers.
