Abstract:
A paper delivered at the conference "The Jews in East-Central Europe and the Former Soviet Union since 1989, " London, October 1994. States that antisemitism subsided in the Ukraine immediately after the declaration of Ukrainian independence in 1991. However, recently it has resurfaced as an ideology of right-wing parties and movements. One of the main issues arising in Ukrainian-Jewish relations is the memory of the Holocaust. Relates the postwar history of the site of the Janowska camp (in Lvov) during the Nazi occupation, and attempts to create a memorial complex there in the 1990s.
