Abstract:
Leopoldo Lugones, a prominent leader of Argentinian spiritualistic nationalism which became increasingly conservative, authoritarian, and pro-fascist in the 1920s-30s, defended the Jews in spite of his own ideology. He condemned anti-Jewish violence and persecutions, and argued that antisemitism was a "false problem" in Argentina, but occasionally used anti-Jewish stereotypes (e.g. "Jewish international banking" or "Jewish international socialism").
