Abstract:
Even though these organizations shared the same Zionist ideology, the different cultural systems in the two countries led to different representations of the Holocaust. The press in Eretz-Israel marginalized the Holocaust events, referring to them mainly to prove that the Jews needed a state of their own. The American-Jewish press, in contrast, dealt with the tragedies, the grim stories, the victims, and the suffering. This press portrayed the Holocaust as an integral part of the ethnic components of Jewish identity, which coincided with the desire to promote the universal and American values of freedom, justice, and equality.
