Abstract:
Deals with the issue of maintaining or recovering Jewish identity during and after the trauma of the Holocaust. Refers to the published Holocaust diaries of three young Jewish girls: Janina and Giacoma, who were hidden in Catholic convents in Poland and Italy respectively, and Hannele, who found asylum as a refugee in England with Christian families, but was seen as an "enemy alien" during the "Blitz". Outlines the children's trauma as a result of the loss of their families and their identities in hiding.
