Abstract:
Criticizes inadequate attempts to memorialize Raoul Wallenberg, and thus the victims of the Holocaust, in Sweden. Argues that this failure reflects Sweden's controversial stance toward Nazism during the war. Sweden responded to the Holocaust with a distressing lack of generosity toward Jewish victims for whom its help was vital. Until the late 1980s, most Swedish historians neglected the Holocaust period. Surprisingly, the information and teaching project "Levande Historia" was launched by the Swedish government in 1997; one of its products has been the world-renowned educational book "Tell Ye Your Children...", translated into many languages. Reflects on the motives of this initiative. However, it failed to achieve the goal of making Swedish society more conscious of the Holocaust.
