Abstract:
Deals with the effect of antisemitism during the Weimar Republic on the careers of Jewish scholars, focusing here on the case of the physiologist Georg Friedrich Nicolai (1874-1964, né Lewinstein). During World War I, he published treatises against the war, and against warfare in general. He was demoted from his position at the Charité in Berlin. In 1922 he emigrated to South America, where he worked and taught in Argentina and, later, Chile.
