Abstract:
Thomas of Monmouth's 12th-century work "The Life and Passion of Saint William the Martyr of Norwich" is a reconstruction of William's murder, and a defense of Thomas' contention that it was a ritual crucifixion perpetrated by Jews. Contends that this work was not so much meant to harm the Jews, but rather to enhance the glory of the Norwich monastery by converting William into a symbol of Christ.
