Abstract:
Analyzes Jewish figures in novels, short stories, and plays - by Thomas Mann, Gertrud von le Fort, Heinrich Böll, Peter Weiss, Heiner Kipphard, Horst Bieniek, and others. Discusses the variety of Jewish characters and of the writers' approach to the "Jewish problem". Both positive and negative stereotypes of the Jews are found in these literary works, even when the authors try to overcome the negative stereotype. Some literary works reflect the authors' guilt complex following the Holocaust.
