Abstract:
In his satiric essay, written in 1920, Feuchtwanger expresses optimistic views about the decline of antisemitism. He maintained this view even in the early 1930s. In the novel "Die Geschwister Oppermann" (1933), he describes, sometimes in a sarcastic way, the illusion of the German Jews (including himself) regarding their full integration into German society. During his years in exile, Feuchtwanger sympathized with communism and refused to admit the obvious antisemitism of the Soviet leaders.
