Abstract:
A number of works by Huberband which are held in the Oneg Shabbat archive at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, or in the Wasser Collection at YIVO, were not included in the Hebrew anthology of his wartime writings entitled "Kiddush Hashem" (1969) or in the expanded English version of this anthology (1987). Some of them were considered illegible by the publishers, while others were wrongly identified or ascribed to other writers. Presents four works by Huberband that have not yet been published. Three of them include diary entries covering events in the Warsaw ghetto in May-June 1942. The fourth text is his essay "The Seizure of Jews in Warsaw", written also in May 1942. Pp. 63-86 contain Huberband's texts, which describe the Nazi filming of the Warsaw ghetto in May 1942, random killings of Jews by the Germans, and a roundup of young Jews with the aim of deporting them to labor camps in the East. In the latter operation, the Jewish police of the ghetto took part. Pp. 53-62 contain a historical introduction by Prais.
