Abstract:
Surveys different strands of antisemitism in the Wilhelmine period: Stöcker's social antisemitism, Lagarde's nationalism, Gobineau's racism, and religious anti-Judaism based on Wellhausen's view of a rational, moralistic, priestly authority usurping and falsifying Israel's original religion, which he defines as "nature, the flowering of life". Nietzsche adopted elements of Gobineau's and Wellhausen's thought in his history of cultures, but strongly opposed antisemitism.
