"This essay in which Hayim Nahman Bilaik envisioned the literary functions of the Hebrew Renascence was delivered in the form of an address by the great poet a the Conference on Hebrew Language and Culture, held in Vienna in 1913. the esay was first published in 1914 in the monhtly review "Hashiloah" and was included in the jubilee edition of the Collected Words by H.N. Bialik, published in 1923. The main ideas propounded by the poet were embodied in the plan of the Bialik Institute established in Jerusalem in 1935 by the Jewish Agency for Palestine to commemorate his name." -- prefatory text
