Abstract:
Based on written works and testimonies, presents lists of members of Budapest Zionist youth movements who carried out aid and rescue activities. In late 1943-early 1944 nine members were sent to 13 towns to help the Jews and pass on information provided by refugees. Between March-June 1944, after the occupation of Hungary, 55 members went to 97 locations, including military labor camps. Posing as non-Jews, they attempted to save members of their movements, as well as their relatives and other Jews, from deportation. They provided false documents and helped Jews cross the borders into Slovakia or Romania. Between July-December 1944, 18 members were sent to 29 locations. They helped Jews escape to Budapest, and saved some of those who were sent on a death march to Austria.
