Abstract:
Presents a small selection of Heine’s poetry, from his early writings until his last collection, which testify to his uninterrupted interest in Jewish subjects, sensitivity to persecution suffered throughout the ages, and solidarity with the Jews and their fate, despite his baptism in 1825. Shows that Heine feared the strength of German nationalism and racism, and even predicted the Nuremberg Laws and Hitler’s New Order.

Appeared also in his "Zwei Seiten einer Medaille" (2000).
