Abstract:
Analyzes the continuing effects of the Holocaust in the psyches of perpetrators, bystanders, and victims, and of their children and grandchildren who live in Germany. The offspring of the perpetrators, even those who see themselves as rebelling against their parents' values, often harbor an unconscious antisemitism which may erupt dangerously. This antisemitism is age-old and is transmitted in society through latent associations that are easily activated, especially in individuals who seek power over others as a result of the strict, loveless upbringing common in Germany, particularly among parents who were formerly Nazis. Thus, Holocaust victims and their children, who constantly relive their trauma, cannot receive support from German society.
