Abstract:
In December 1594, the Inquisition in Mexico accused a Converso woman of Portuguese origin, Beatriz Enríquez la Payva, of Judaizing. The accusations were part of a larger action of the Inquisition against Conversos of Portuguese origin. Her own children, as well as other relatives, friends and informants testified against her. She denied all the charges but was condemned to death. She was burnt at the stake in the auto-da-fé of December 1596.
