Abstract:
Criticizes the representation of the Holocaust in American culture, which interpreted the Holocaust story as a survival story (which can be illustrated by the literary and scenic interpretation of Anne Frank's diary), thus providing the tragedy with a happy end. It also trivialized the Holocaust, using it as a paradigm for other cases of persecution of minorities. Moreover, it commercialized it. Reflects on why in the 1990s there has been an explosion of representations of the Holocaust in American culture. This may be connected, inter alia, with ethnic Americans' growing interest in their roots. Concludes that if the Holocaust is to be remembered at all, American historians, writers, movie directors, teachers, etc. must "re-see" and "re-say" it.
