Abstract:
Discusses life in occupied Warsaw and in the Warsaw ghetto as depicted in the recently published reports of Ludwig Fischer, the Nazi German governor of the District of Warsaw between 1939-44. Notes the expressions of Nazi racist ideology in the reports, reflected also in Fischer’s attitude towards the Jewish labor force. Among the topics mentioned are enclosure in the ghetto, economic exploitation of the Jews, further evictions of Jews in 1941-42, starvation conditions in the ghetto, the deportations to Treblinka in 1942, and the ghetto revolt.
