Abstract:
In February 2012, Mark Easton arranged for Bert Jakobs to travel to Columbus, Ohio from California to reunite him with one of the men who liberated his family from the attic they had been hiding in for 25 monthys in a town of Berg en Dahl in Holland during Operation Market Garden. Bert was born to Jewish parents in Oldenberg (vermutl. Oldenburg) Germany in 1934 and after Hitler's perge on Jews the family moved to Holland then Germany invaded Holland and they were in danger of being sent to a concentration camp so they went into hiding. In 1944 Bert was just 10 years old. After the war he moved to Caifornia and became and American citizen. Don Jakeway joined the 92nd airborne, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in 1942 around the time Bert went into hiding. Their paths were to cross in Sept 1044 and again 68 years later when they were reunited in 2012.
