Abstract:
The Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens was founded in 1893, and published a periodical against antisemitism called "Im Deutschen Reich". When the Jews were widely blamed for Germany's defeat in World War I, the journal changed its name in 1919 to "Centralverein Zeitung: Blätter für Deutschtum und Judentum". At the same time, the C.V. founded the Philo Verlag in Berlin to publish books and pamphlets against antisemitism. Notes that during the Nazi period Jewish authors could publish only through Jewish publishers, and buyers of these books had to identify themselves as Jews. The Philo Verlag was closed down in December 1938.
