Abstract:
George Moss was the first honorary secretary of the Sydney Synagogue between 1833-1838. In 1842 he was the publisher and editor of an Australian version of a Jewish English paper, "Voice of Jacob", from London. It was the first Jewish periodical published in Australia. The first issue appeared on 27 May 1842 in exactly the same format as the London publication. The Sydney “Voice of Jacob” was a monthly and consisted of eight pages. It folded after just three issues, in September 1842, due to lack of interest in the Jewish community, as they preferred the London edition.
