Abstract:
Deals with historical revisionism and negation of the Holocaust. Differentiates between these two approaches and their historical context, such as the growth of the extreme right and xenophobia, or the accusation of genocide as an argument regarding Israeli policy in the Middle East. Discusses, as well, the functionalist approach in Holocaust research, and argues that this approach does not sufficiently describe the evolution of events and that it facilitates the "arguments" of negationists. Notes the existence for many years of some unverified hypotheses, such as the number of victims in some of the extermination camps, or the myth, only recently rejected, of Nazi production of soap from human corpses.
