Abstract:
A paper delivered at a conference held in Lvov in November 2003. Describes the situation in Lvov after the Soviet occupation in September 1939 and after the Nazi occupation on 30 June 1941, when the actions against Jews began. Focuses on the fate of the well-known lawyer and professor at Lvov University, Maurycy Allerhand, quoting from his memoirs and archival sources. In 1941, Allerhand and his family were interned in the ghetto. His memoirs end in February 1942. Allerhand lived with some members of his family up to August 1942 but this period is not documented in the sources. Relates to the postwar (1947) testimony of Allerhand's disciple, professor Karol Koranyi, who refers to an unidentified witness who told him that Allerhand was interned in August in the Janowska camp and killed there by a Ukrainian policeman.
