Abstract:
A lecture presented by Rabbi Amital, the head of the yeshiva (a Holocaust survivor) in the month of Av 1998, transcribed by Roni Goldenzweig. Contends that Orthodox Jewry has had difficulty dealing with the Holocaust; one reaction has been to suppress the events in religious consciousness, and another has been trivialization. Regards use of Holocaust-related terms, such as "Nazis" or "Auschwitz", in situations unrelated to the Holocaust as contributing to the suppression and derogation of the Holocaust. Objects, also, to the response of some rabbinical authorities who place the blame for the Holocaust, as well as other calamities which befall the Jews, on the sins of other Jews. Recommends that worship of the Lord, rather than being based on praise of His goodness should be based on faith, which is the only appropriate response after the Holocaust.
