Abstract:
Gives a detailed description of the contents of the 12th century manuscript "Opusculum de conversione sua", which claims to be an autobiographical account of his conversion to Christianity by a Jew from Cologne who became a priest and took the name Hermann. Argues, on the basis of internal evidence and sources, that the work is a fiction written by a non-Jew for the edification of pious Christians. Rather than using rational persuasion and argument, the work describes the blindness and diabolical superstition of the Jews, and the miraculous interventions which led to the author's conversion.
