Abstract:
An exhibition on the history of Polish Jewry was scheduled to be held in Warsaw in April 1939 by the Bund's educational network, the Centrale Yiddishe Shul Organizatsia (CYSHO). The organization's exhibitions, held each year from the beginning of the 20th century, were very popular. This one, in particular, was going to stress the Jewish connection to Poland, in the face of growing antisemitism in the late 1930s. The fact that the government prohibited the exhibition just three days before it was meant to open was part of official anti-Jewish discrimination. The prohibition provoked a debate among journalists, with those who supported democracy condemning the government's decision.
