Abstract:
Deals with the participation of Jewish deputies in the Galician Provincial Sejm in four sessions between 1861-66, when Galicia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Discusses changes in legislation concerning Jews especially in the years 1859-60 when many discriminatory decrees were abolished, but many restrictions still remained in force. In consecutive sessions they discussed, among others, the problem of special taxation of Jews, acquisition of land by Jews, projects attempting to limit the rights of Jews in Cracow (not accepted by the majority of the deputies), projected statutes for the Jews of Lvov, and conscription to the army.
