Abstract:
Views Nazism as a 20th-century revolutionary millenarian sect, in the terms of historian Norman Cohn. Like medieval millenarists, Hitler regarded the world as being divided into absolute good and absolute evil, with a perennial struggle beween the two; for him, the Jews were the embodiment of evil. In the spirit of the old revolutionary eschatology, the only possible solution to this Manichean-Gnostic world struggle was an apocalyptic destruction. In agreement with intentionalist historians, maintains that Hitler was behind the Nazi decision to annihilate all the Jews.
